Articles and learning files

Common fractions is a simple calculation to convert 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 etc. fractions from their decimal form into the common and easy-to-read one.

New Fast summaries article explains how to get summary data of a found set in a fast and flexible manner using GetSummary() function and provides detailed information about a few possible implementations: getting a summary report in a text form, including only summaries that meet given criteria, and producing cross-tab reports.

Pro Hierarchy introduces a universal method of storing and displaying hierarchical information in FileMaker databases.

Smart Date Field is a learning file that explains how one can build a date field that would be able to understand such date specifications as "Sunday", "this quarter", "1998" or "17".

Miscellaneous tips

Here are some tips that were made without an accompanying article mainly because they are simple. May be I'll convert them into articles later.

Better modifiers ( 9k): a convenient way to work with modifier keys.

Alphanumeric keys ( 26k): formulas to build alphanumeric keys.

Remove duplicates ( 7k): subroutine that removes duplicate lines from a text field.

Generating permutations ( 26k): an interesting and rather quick method of generating all permutations of a string.

Pop-up that works like checkboxes ( 10k): an off-hand idea; it seems it doesn't work under Windows.
